Dr Seugnet Zietsman completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of the Western Cape in 2020.  Her passion for orthodontics led her to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Interceptive Orthodontics, and she is currently enrolled for an MSc in Orthodontics, commencing 2025.

Her dedication to excellence was recognized when she was awarded a Merit Certificate with distinctions in Practice Management, Oral Medicine & Periodontology and Advanced Restorative Dentistry during her undergraduate training. In addition to her extensive academic background, Seugnet spent the last two years honing her skills at a highly successful orthodontic practice in Johannesburg under the mentorship of the esteemed Orthodontist, Dr André Hugo.  Working under his guidance, Seugnet developed a deep understanding of both traditional braces and modern aligner systems, which she leverages to develop customised treatment plans that meet the unique needs of her patients.

Dr Seugnet ensures that she stays at the forefront of modern orthodontic treatment through her unwavering commitment to continuous learning.  She actively participates in courses and conferences, which include: ‘Clear aligners Mastery: Unlocking new Techniques for Creating Incredible Smiles’, and ‘Aligner Therapy Masterclass’ by Dr André El Zogbi; ‘Transforming Smiles: Achieving Brilliance with PSL Brackets’ by Dr Trevor Nicols; and Invisalign Masterclass: The Future of Dentristry is Digital - Shift your practice into the digital future.’

She also received accreditation in Active Aligners and ‘Common Sense Orthodontics for Clear Aligners Treatment’ which was approved by The South African Dental Therapy Association.

Dr Seugnet lives by the motto ‘Respice Prospice’, a reflection of her alma mater’s philosophy - to take valuable lessons from the  past and build a brighter future.  Outside of the clinic, Seugnet enjoys music, cooking and hiking, making the most of her weekends with activities that balance her professional and personal life.

We look forward to building strong collaborations with local dentists to ensure that patients receive seamless and comprehensive orthodontic care.

Here’s to a successful partnership and many positive outcomes ahead!

FIXED BRACES & CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT

Fixed braces are attached to the teeth and cannot be removed while eating or cleaning. We offer a choice of metal or ceramic braces. Children mostly opt for the metal braces, while adults prefer the ceramic braces due to the fact that they are more discreet and less visible. CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT Adult patients mostly opt for this treatment, as duration of treatment is shorter and aesthetically, it is more subtle. Two options are available: * Invisalign Clear Aligner treatment * Spark Clear Aligner treatment

RETAINERS

Retainers are extremely important to help maintain the positioning of teeth after Orthodontic treatment. Fixed retainer: a thin wire that is applied across the front teeth or the back of the lower teeth, bonded with cement. This is the best option to hold straightened teeth in perfect position. Removable retainer: The removable retainer is a combination of a wire going across the front of the upper or lower front teeth, kept in place with acrylic material and hooks that insert in and around the back teeth to keep the retainer in place. This type of retainer makes it easier to keep your teeth clean, due to the fact that it is removable.

REMOVABLE BRACES

For minor treatment in order to straighten your teeth, removable braces could be an option. These braces consist of wires and a plastic plate, and can be removed for brushing, flossing and eating. Removable braces available: Functional Appliances: Functional appliances, also known as orthopaedic appliances, are braces used to stimulate jaw growth. They should be worn full-time to ensure treatment success and timing of treatment is of utmost importance. Removable Plates: These appliances are used for minor tooth movement or arch expansion. Wires and springs push the teeth into position. The wires or springs are not fixed to the teeth, so the plate can be removed, unlike traditional braces.

It's always good to visit your Dentist to get a referral from him/her, but we also have many patients who come to us without a referral.
Applying braces is not a painful process, as such.  No injections are involved and no wires cut/scratch the gums.  The apparatus is attached to the teeth, and at the most, you will experience a 'tight' feeling that can be alleviated by drinking Panado.

It takes approximately 45minutes to apply braces.  This is usually done during a morning appointment, as the afternoons are fully booked with 4-6 weekly check-up visits, where braces are adjusted.
